It is a traditional Albanian dessert that has spread all over Europe. It became a popular dessert in Turkey. The cake will be a very light one. You can even have it as a cake.

Ingredients

  • 6 eggs
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 packet baking powder
  • 1,5-2 cup all purpose flour
  • For the Milk Sauce:
  • 400 ml. heavy cream
  • 600ml. whole warm milk
  • 250gr milk powder
  • 500ml. whole cold milk (2,5 cups milk)
  • 5 tbsp granulated sugar
  • For the Caramel Sauce:
  • 150ml heavy cream
  • 5 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 2 tbsp margarine, room temperature

Method

Step 1

Preheat the oven to 160 degrees. Lightly butter a baking dish.

Step 2

Separate the egg whites and yolks. Put the whites is a large mixing bowl. The yolks in a smaller one.

Step 3

Add a pinch of salt to the egg whites. Mix using a mixer until you obtain a snow-like thick mixture.

Step 4

Add the sugar add mix again with a mixer for 5 more minutes.

Step 5

Add the egg yolks one at time, beating well and then the addition of each.

Step 6

Sift together the flour and baking powder and add to the egg mixture, add the vanilla extract in the mixture.

Step 7

Beat them about 1 minute. When you obtain a smooth mixture, pour it into the baking dish. Bake until golden about 30-40 minutes.

Step 8

Allow to cool (but not too much, it should be lukewarm).

Step 9

Combine the cold milk and milk powder in a bowl and mix them and add the warm milk, beat until fluffy, add the sugar,beat them again, beating well after add the heavy cream then mix together. This mixture is not cooked.

Step 10

For caramel: Place the sugar in a teflon pan, cook until melted the sugar and add the margarine or butter, heavy cream then immediately beat it and cook it until to a little thicken. Let it warm.

Step 11

Pierce the cooled cake with a fork or with a toothpick completely.

Step 12

Pour the milky mixture evenly on all the cake and let it soak around 2 hours.

Step 13

Pour the caramel on top to cover all the cake. Set aside in the fridge before serving. Serve cold.
