Rice pilaf is famous in Turkey and served in restaurants as a side dish to poultry or red meats. You can prepare Turkish rice recipe in 2 different ways. By steeping the rice in hot salty water for 30 minutes – 1 hour or cooking without steeping in. You will need 1.5 times water the amount of rice you have used. So if it was a glass you will need a 1,5 glass of warm water.
- 2 glasses of rice (a normal kitchen glass will do, approx 225 or 250 ml)
- 3 glasses of hot water or chicken stock
- 3 tablespoons butter
- Salt to taste
Rinse the rice in a sieve under cold water. Place the rice in a bowl and cover with warm salted water for 30 minutes – 1 hour.
Melt the butter in a broad and shallow nonstick saucepan.
Drain the rice and put in saucepan, and sauté for 2-3 minutes stirring continuously.
Pour the stock or water into the pan, bring to the boil, then turn down to simmer on a low heat.
Cover the saucepan and cook until the rice has absorbed all the water.
Remove from heat and keep the pan covered until you are ready to serve. Let it rest for 10-15 minutes before serving.
