Rice pilaf is famous in Turkey and served in restaurants as a side dish to poultry or red meats. You can prepare Turkish rice recipe in 2 different ways. By steeping the rice in hot salty water for 30 minutes – 1 hour or cooking without steeping in. You will need 1.5 times water the amount of rice you have used. So if it was a glass you will need a 1,5 glass of warm water.
Ingredients
- 2 glasses of rice (a normal kitchen glass will do, approx 225 or 250 ml)
- 3 glasses of hot water or chicken stock
- 3 tablespoons butter
- Salt to taste
Method
Step 1
Rinse the rice in a sieve under cold water. Place the rice in a bowl and cover with warm salted water for 30 minutes – 1 hour.
Step 2
Melt the butter in a broad and shallow nonstick saucepan.
Step 3
Drain the rice and put in saucepan, and sauté for 2-3 minutes stirring continuously.
Step 4
Pour the stock or water into the pan, bring to the boil, then turn down to simmer on a low heat.
Step 5
Cover the saucepan and cook until the rice has absorbed all the water.
Step 6
Remove from heat and keep the pan covered until you are ready to serve. Let it rest for 10-15 minutes before serving.
