Tel Kadayif (Shredded Kadaifi) is one of the most well known Turkish desserts with a sweet syrup. You can easily make kadayif at home, the only thing you need to find is shredded kadayif dough.
- 400g kadayif (Shredded Dough)
- 150g butter
- 1 cup walnuts, in chunks
- 3 cups water
- 3 cups sugar
- 1tbsp lemon juice
First, mix sugar and water in a pot and bring it to boil.
Boil it over low heat for 5 minutes. Stir in lemon juice and boil 2-3 minutes and let it cool.
Melt butter and drizzle all over the kadayif.
Mix them gently with your hands to spread butter evenly.
Take a small Turkish coffee cup and fill half of it with kadayif, make a hole in the middle and place 1 tsp walnut there.
Fill the rest of the cup with kadayif. Gently press on top of the cup.
Preheat oven at 180C.
Grease an oven pan and flip the cup upside down in the pan.
Repeat the same steps for the rest of the kadayif.
Bake them until they get light brown.
Pour the cold syrup on hot kadayif right after taking it from oven.
Let it absorb the syrup at least for 2-3 hours. Enjoy!
