As you see in the picture, Sesame Seed Rings so similar to simit, it’s like the smaller version of it. They’re alike in terms of their shapes, but their tastes are quite different. Simit tastes more like bread, it doesn’t spread easily when you chew, but it’s the main feature of kandil simidi to spread easily in your mouth. And their ingredients are different, too.

Ingredients

  • 250 gr butter or margarine ( room temperature)
  • 50 ml olive oil
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tbsp vinegar
  • 3 cups flour ( fine strainer)
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 tsp mahlep ( not necessary)
  • Top:Sesame seeds1egg white

Method

Step 1

Put all the ingredients except flour in a large bowl.

Step 2

Add flour slowly. Use your hand to mix them well until the dough is very smooth and springy

Step 3

Preheat the oven to 375 F ( 190C)

Step 4

Grab some dough  the size of a little ball and make 2-2,5 inch long pencil and stick the ends to form a ring.

Step 5

First dip all the rings in the egg white and then dip into the sesame seeds.

Step 6

Place on a baking tray. Bake about 25-30 minutes until rich golden brown in color.

Step 7

They are best eaten fresh out of the oven. They will be good all day.
